Hi, I’m a long term lurker first time poster. I bought this a couple months ago in a bag of vintage jewelry at an estate sale. I can’t figure out what other terms to search for to figure out what this is. It almost looks like it should be a pendant watch but there’s no apparent area where a bale would be missing from. It does have this area at the top that looked like it may be a mechanism to open it adjacent to the brass colored area. I don’t want to break it if it isn’t. Does anybody recognize one this or have a suggestion. Whole tho f is about the size of a silver dollar but the watch is only about the size of a nickel. The watch part extends about 1/2” off the base Thanks in advance

It is an extremely rare buttonhole watch. You just don’t see them very often and a very nice find. Based on the condition and without knowing who the movement is by I would think it’s worth $50-$200.

Would that have been used as a cuff button? Looks like it's made of silver. You might see some tiny little Swiss hallmarks on it somewhere.

Thank so much for the replies Jim Don and Tamrock. I’ve never even heard of a button watch! I almost tossed it because I’ve looked and looked for info on it and figured it was a broken pocket watch. Thank u so much for the help. I love this site!

yes that is a buttonhole watch very rare indeed. Probably a cylinder escape and pin set by the pictures. Probably made by Argent Dore Very nice find

Great find Ive done very well at Estate and yard sales finding stuff like that. Thanks for sharing it hope to see more posts.

Usually they are gun metal Although silver is a possibility. I believe they were worn on the lapel of a coat.
