Re: Found in till at work today...

The 21D is the second key date in the Mercury series, behind only the 16D. Hold on to that one and get us a picture! Great find!

Re: Found in till at work today...

My dad put together a merc collection in the 60's from pocket change. He never found the 16-D or the 21-D. Tough date, nice find. Probably was taken from someone's coin collection and spent. Someone will be missing that one.

Re: Found in till at work today...

Wow....finally found something good. No detector needed haha. Any ideas on value range? Ill put a pic up as soon as I can to let you see the condition. Im just curious if I have something worth keeping because of rarity,or selling to recoup some of my costs from the detector I bought. The wife and I are in the process of closing on our first house so every little bit helps. Thanks again guys.

Re: Found in till at work today...

'94 redbook shows $30.00 plus, check ebay for current prices realized.

Heres the 1921d without the full band. we need to come up with the pic of the full band design and compare.

lol if the band is the thing around the pillar i think im SOL. oh well still a nice coin i think.

This most popular series is one of the most beautifully coins ever produced. Adolph Weinman designed this series as well as the Walking Liberty Halves. Miss Liberty is on the obverse with the wings designating freedom of thought. The reverse is important because of the bands. Full band coins mean the coins were fully struck and all the details are on the diagonal bands. Many of these dimes have been melted down over the years. For mint state coins, most people collect from 1941-1945 which is called the short set.

Can you see the details on the diagonal bands on the pillar?

At least we learned something todaybrother.

happy digging

Well thanks for clearing that up. I really do appreciate the wealth of information you guys so freely share. It is great to have a hobby that other people get excited with you and help you out. I think ill just put it back in the coin jug and admire it from time to time. Thanks again gang.

Anyone have any idea what grade this would be?

Well, I'd probably say about a G-6. The reverse is what keeps it from a full VG. April Coins Mag lists G at 62.50, VG at 115, so it would be worth about $80-85. Nice coin, I had to buy mine

07 Redbook lists it at $65 in G4. Thats probably very close. Very nice coin indeed though!!! I'll gladly give you what you paid for it!!!!!!!
