I have no idea but it's a really neat item. Maybe part of an old spur? I'll watch this thread to see what it is.
What ever it is, it's cool. 8)

So, is this recessed on one side and relief on the other? That would indicate VERY hard tooling if this is steel.

Can you tell if it's copper, steel, lead, etc. ?

Put in on a piece of aluminum foil, wet with a little spit, get it wet all over, wrap very tightly. If you get a rotten egg smell, it's silver and it will come out cleaner.

There is not much bronze around here.

It looks like silver to me. Try rubbing a little bit on the back using your fingers, and a paste made from water and baking soda, and see if it suddenly becomes silver.

Hmm, yes it sure could be silver also...

Is it magnetic? Looks like some kind of metal but? From what little info I have seen I think the part of a spur thing is looking favorable. Monty

Machine stamped. Item looks to have clips to attach to leather or similar material on the back. Decoration for purse of horse gear, or even a human shoe.

well...I tried the baking soda paste concoction...didn't change a thing.

I think it's nickle. :icon_scratch:

Nope Monty-- it's not magnetic.

It was found at a homesite..if that helps.

it looks like it was stamped out, so probably not too old
