Found metal detecting

Found these objects metal detecting an old farm field near Ocean city, MD. No idea what that first object is.
The second object is in the next two pictures. I think it is a handle of some sort? It has the initials "U.S." on it.

the piece of metal with US on it is a mess kit eating utensil most likely from ww2 era

your handle is from a military issued mess kit, probably a spoon. My guess would be WW2 but I think these were made for a while after.

Those mess kits were still being used during the Korean conflict. I have not heard from any Vietnam Vet if they were used then.

Without more/better photos, the first item looks like a whistle.

I have a couple of mess kit knives dated 1941, 1st has a black plastic handle & 2nd an aluminum one. That handle looks like the later stamped out ones. A cousin had some similar ones in Viet Nam era but were stainless so I'd guess yours is Korean War time frame.
