My wife has been on me about Metal detecting too much lately so, I decided to stay home today and do a little cleaning around the house. Of course, I can’t clean all day long so why not crack a couple rolls of pennies while I’m on break.

Anyhow, I found my first 1989 penny sporting the old FG on the back. It’s not the prettiest penny in the world but I’ll take it until something better comes along!

Here Is my 1989 penny with the old FG

And for reference, here is an 1989 with the serif FG

From what I Understand, the 1988 with the new serif FG is the more desirable one one to find.

Any ideas on how to get the green Crud off this thing?

Soak it in COKE maybe, after all, it cleans battery terminal posts.

Lol I will try that for a few minutes. If I leave it overnight the penny will likely disappear.
Just like magic!

I usually try hydrogen peroxide, which helps somewhat.

Before you do anything, use a test penny first before you alter it.

I never even knew there was an F-n -G on a memorial cent......:tongue3:

Sorry, but you're mistaken. There is no 89 with the 88 reverse. The mint mark has had part of the design polished away. It's fooled many a collector.
