We have found an old army training ground for (we believe) snipers & infantry, out in the middle of nowhere, detected under this old Ponderosa, and found the 10k Black Hills Gold ring along with a peach jam C-ration can, some training shells,a broken knife blade, and an old razor blade, and some kind of leather strap. The ridge we were detecting had C-ration cans under almost every tree. My best guess is, it is a sweetheart ring, his girl probably sent him off to the army with it,and he lost it under this large ,old tree. We have been able to date the cartridges we've been finding , by the headstamps,so far all the ones we have found are dated 1942 to 1955 and are from 4 different arsenals,or ammunition plants We have only been to this site twice, can't wait to go back !

Good start, i wish you luck next hunt.

Great find!!!I've never found anything military related before so its interesting to hear about. May you have even better luck on your next hunt!

WW II training grounds are a good time . Pikes Pike hope you & everyone else out there in Colorado , stay out of harms way . I've been watching some awful news about a horrible wild fire .. let us know ..

dawg

The leather strap looks like a chin strap for a helmet liner. And you probably already know that the two shells have links, for belted ammo. Nice finds!

Where the Hell did you find an unburned area?
Hope all is well, sadly waiting for a fire to start up around Denver.

Thanks for all the replies !!!! Dawg & Carl,The fire is 4 miles from my front door,we have been on standby to evacuate for 2 days, have had to sleep in this VERY hot house with the windows closed because of the smoke. Dawg, thanks,I had not thought of a helmet strap !! After the fires are gone,I will be heading back to the site. Carl,, we have a little bit of land left that has'nt burned :tongue3:
