Sunday morning early my friend Ed & I decided to try our luck on the old strip at Lake Ozark. It seemed a likely spot for some coin shooting as this was the only long grassy area next to the sidewalk, every where else having been paved over.
Despite some tough digging, the ground is 50% rock I do believe, I found a costume ring and a 1940 Penny in really good shape as well as a total of a total of .94 cents in clad coin.
About halfway thru our detecting I had a strange signal that my M-6 couldn't decide if it was a screw cap, penny or quarter so I gave it a dig and found a High School class ring just under the surface. I was pretty excited to say the least but I really got happy when I saw it had the full name of the owner inscribed inside!
My wife was able to contact the owner thru Facebook and she got an interesting story of how the owner thought it was gone forever. Hopefully he'll post the story here for me as a "reward".
As much as I'd liked this ring to have been solid gold with 10 carets of diamond, this find was cool because we're going to be able to reunite it with it's owner.
Happy digging all,
Gary

Sweet. I bet that dude was happy. So far I only return one item to it's owner. I found and returned a dropped blackberry to a woman. I bet she thought it was lost forever....Good deed returning the ring!

Very nice! Looks like your choice of spot was a wise one. Glad you were able to locate the owner.

good job on the ring and finding the owner, now get back out there so you can find a nice group of coins due to the good karma you get for returning the ring. congrats and hh

How long was it missing from its owner? I would really like to hear the story of how it was lost to reuniting with its owner.

Thank you all.

My wife made contact with the owner thru facebook and gave him my cell but he's not yet contacted me. I don't have a facebook account, only the wife does and she's feeling poorly (ovarian cancer) so I'm not going to bug her to contact him until she feels better.

I really wanted for the owner to give us the story but in short it goes like this: He gave the ring to his sweetheart in 2006 prior to graduating H.S. but sometime around graduation time (2007) their relationship ended and she moved out of town with the ring.

He hadn't had contact with her since and assumed the ring was gone for good.

How it ended up on the Strip in Lake Ozark I haven't a clue but it still had the what you may call it piece of plastic used to take up size on a ring. That makes me think she was still wearing it when it was lost. The ground is dense clay and rocky so it was not completely under ground, a tiny part of the band was at the surface under the grass. It couldn't have been there more than 2 years. My 1940 Wheatie I dug nearby was only 1 inch down.

I'm hoping that by finding the ring and contacting him I haven't opened up an old wound but I can't figure out why he hasn't called me yet. Oh well, I have no other plans for the ring so I'll just hold on to it for him for as long as need be.

Thanks again to everyone for the intrest in my find and the welcome.
I'll post again if he ever contacts me to get it back.
Gary
