Got back to a place that's yielded relics from the 1700s to today. The area the ring was found had a higher concentration of the older objects. I'm thinking that the ring is brass? Want to clean it, but not sure of the best way. Maybe just a dry toothbrush? Based on the initial images, is there any way to guess its age?

8/05/13. Updated pics of the ring... only brushed with a dry toothbrush. Doesn't look like it'd be able to take too much abuse. Looking forward to any input on age!

Can't make out the design. The age would be hard determine. The round shank is unusual. Do you have a form of electro cleaning available? Old rings were often 9K and the appearance of it could be consistent with that.

cool ring. looks very old. If it were me, I'd use warm water, soap, and a soft toothbrush

Thanks guys! Will see if anyone else has any input before I try cleaning it

Very cool ring. Not 100% positive but It looks to be a brass or copper trade ring from mid late 1700's. Congrats

Updated pics of ring in 1st post... hopefully these are better!
