I found this at the beach this morning. It weighs 13.5 ounces, is 6 inches long and 3/4 inches in diameter. Magnets do stick to it. What is interesting are the two notches at each end. It is not smooth but almost hammered looking. It was covered in charcoal that easily chipped off and has permanently discolored my hands.

Any ideas?

Maybe a rope divider for a small monohull boat, they would put those..mainly wooden...in between ropes to keep from tangling
