Found one of my favorite old coins yesterday...a "Liberty" ( "V") nickel....1889
I love to recover "V" nickels. I think they are a most beautiful coin.
Found this one in dry sand at a very old beach near dunes at a 3 foot cut; coin was about 6" deep and gave off a "foil" sound, but it was strong and focused.
Was quite sure it was a "V" nickel...but not entirely until I began to clean it.
Here's pics of the coin when initially recovered , and after soaking in olive oil for a day;
Also found a "wheatie" in dry sand ...date not visible at this time.
Will continue to soak this coin in olive oil until I can see all 13 stars. I don't think there will be any visible lettering on the head band
Thanks for looking
