Nahhh.... it's just a bull snake. It's like a black snake from back east. They're harmless rat catchers and help control jackrabbit population by taking the young ones "out to dinner". You'd be surprised how many of these snakes are killed for being mistaken as rattler though. They can do a really great impersonation of one too! They puff themselves up, hiss, coil up and shake their tails, if a person didn't know better they'd think it was a rattler!

Beautiful country. I know what you mean about people thinking bulls are rattlers. We have some large bulls in this area. People use to bring them to me at my pet store and think they caught a timber rattler. They are great snakes for the ecosystem, but they do pack a good wallop if they get a hold of you.
