Hi all. I found a few random items all scattered about rather close to each other. It's from a known trading area for Indians in the Los Angeles area. The first item was the bluish bead with the light green inlays. Just happened to look down when my feet were dragging in a pile of twigs and there it was. Appears to be glass. Then I started looking around and found that broken base to a figurine. That shoe looks old, the mold is of a gritty plaster. Then I found the black and white marbles, which was odd indeed. Then the bullet. I don't know anything about any of these things, so I'm hoping some of the knowledgable people of tnet will be able to help me out. Even if you think that some kid just lost his marbles 20 years ago, I still want your opinion! Thanks in advance....oh, added another find from a wash in 29 palms. Scraping rock? Weapon rock? Just my imagination rock? Almost looks like it could still have old dry blood on it! What do you say?!

my best guesses......22 rimfire casing likely 2nd half 20th century.
2 smaller glass spheres...game pieces(very common)
the large rock is most interesting. You may know that from 29 palms out to baker and over to barstow a very important early man site.whole area was a lake that drained to salton sea and was quite tropical at that time.

No way it was for killing, they simply didnt have to take those kind of risks.they were a little people too.scraper/blade more likely if a tool at all.I have been in those areas.the shoreline areas(up on the hillsides now)have common discoloration like that from algeas.

they had common access to very knappable stone like jaspar and feldspars and your does not look knapped.I think its a leaverite...leav er right where ya found her.A trip to the early man site public tour just north of barstow would confirm.

btw...I'm sure you picked it up off private land and you may want to mention that if you have rock looked at....big big no no to collect it off public land...a crime even.

I found it on a blm area, right near a shooting range. I thought rock hounding was ok in this area. I'll gladly turn it over to who ever it should properly go to.

grey area between a sample of rock specimen and tool.always best to go with the private land angle and donate it if they want it.the truth is that in some areas out there,if you climb to the old shoreline elevation, you cant walk 50 ft.without obvious knapped tools practally jumping out at you...they have 10s of thousands of examples already.several differant eras from same area.Carefully look up at hillsides and you will actuall see the coloration change that is the shoreline.

In fact, this was kind of the point of my post. I have no expertise in these things, and if someone actually thought they might be something (other than just a rock, or just a marble), I would like them in a museum with proper care and identification.

Haha you beat me to the punch. I don't really look much, don't know anything about rocks. I was just hiking, sweating, taking a break, saw that on the ground and thought what if. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it and will read up on the early man stuff.

:occasion14: I think next time I go to visit my friend in twentynine palms, I'll bring it...hmmm. I'll have to look where! I think there might be a couple museums out there. Though, I just looked at your link, and a couple links to hand axes, and those pictured look far more deliberately shaped and made than what I got. We'll see.
