found something..fetish or small lashed on hammer/club?

Thought I would have better luck in this forum rather than what is it. Found in New Mexico.
It is about 3 inches long. It has several grooves that might have been used to lash it to something..any ideas or speculation would be welcome.

Not to dash your hopes, but that appears to be a geofact to me. Lets get some other opinions though....I am old and cynical.

geofact would be fine. i've just never seen a natural looking stone like that. It seems to me, and the pictures don't show it..that at least the back groove seems to be carved or worn in somehow. Not sure though....But then again the grooves don't seem quite right for lashing something. I was thinking maybe some sort of smoothing tool for sinew string or something...

Anyway..i've not been able to find anything like it... Look forward to any other comments! And thanks for replying Atlantis! It is just an interesting item to me. I was not looking for it..it was just there..at my feet, during a stroll.

It's really hard to tell from the pictures if the groove on the back is natural or man made, but I would be inclined to say geofact as well.

Leaning geofact myself.. but if that groove is man made and goes around both ends I would say net weight.

looks a lot like a fossil fish part to me......We find pieces that look like that on middens.
