planchet crack --the metal the coin was stamped from had issues

any value to it? its a 1946

anybody else find something like this CRH?

yes -- i have a 1917 planchet error coin * its caused by there being a flaw in the sheet of metal the coin blank was struck from -- while cool its only worth a couple dollars nornally to a error coin collector * frankly it really should have never left the mint - it should have been caught and destroyed

I usually agree with Ivan, but have to disagree this time. This is obviously a crack, or break if you will, on the working die, not a problem with the planchet. It can also be referred to as a retained cud. Sooner or later that baby broke completely and left a rather large cud. Nice find!

My first thought was a Die issue and not a planchet one. I have a couple like that and have always called them cuds. If it was a planchet issue, the veins in the wheat stalk would still partially show, they are non-existant in the photo above.

Just my 2 cents..... :laughing7:

is the metal on the wheat ear up raised or below the rest ?--if up - die flaw / crack --if below planchet error (die whould not hit it if its low )

looks like a retained cud to me, die was chipping off but not gone yet.

is it a rare find? do they bring any premium?

do not quit your day job --its worth a few bucks but its not "big bucks" -- however that said - *-its worth as much as someone will give for it and as little as you will take for it -- when those two ends meet -- thats what its worth at that exact time and place between those 2 people * -the art of bartering 101
