Found this in the vicinity of a known union army encampment in NC where XIV corp under General Slocum camped in this area after Battle of Bentonville.

First off maybe just a few words in the title instead of all the information.
Looks like a handle that was common on wash tubs.
If dug that's my thoughts on the ID.
