Found this button today! Any ideas?

I got my new Garrett AT Pro today and went out to an old cellar hole near a stream. In 1971, a dam was built and now there is a pond. I found this button on the edge of the pond. Any ideas on when it might be from? It is slightly smaller than a penny and slightly larger than a dime.

Thanks,
Bob

Does not appear to have any markings at all.

Perhaps it is just a no design flat button. Maybe for a child? Hope this helps!:hello:

It appears to be a typical brass 1-piece "flatbutton" from the 1790s through the 1830s. By super-enlarging your photo of it's back, I kinda-sorta think I can see a couple of letters in its backmark. But some of the very-thin flatbuttons from that time had no backmark.

I looked very closely with a magnifying glass and don't see any letters on the back. I may try to figure out how to clean it and see if there are any letters afterwards. Thanks for your help. Certainly a cool find in my book. I love the old stuff. What I really want to find it some colonial coins.

Thanks for your help.
