It looks like an old wooden foundation??? I can tell the area is swamp but is dry at the moment ANY THOUGHTS!!???? The dimensions are about 10x10 with 4 ft berm around it .

Could have been an animal pen. It doesn't fit the profile of Earthfast construction.

Stockade style construction of some sort.

It would have been a perfect spot for a spring house!

I thought ox pen maybe because about 1/2 mile away I found an ox shoe

that would be a very small pen .. even as a holding pen, for more than one large animal.

See if the posts have roots to rule out shore growth. Might be rooted trees from when there was more water.

The reason why I believe it's man made is the posts are in a square and are in the middle of a ringed earthen berm with two entry or exit points on each end

That was a big family outhouse......they flushed it all away.....:laughing7:

First Thought was an old hog pen

The size, the logs or boards which would function as screens make me agree with the spring house theory. Really neat find that needs investigating.

Agreed though very tough terrain even for a fit 34 year old I was beat getting in and out of there!

Is is the rotten base of a big cypress tree?
