When I was a kid in the 50's, my neighbors had their own 'bunker' in their back yard. It was full of canned goods, water, cots, radios, batteries, med supplies, ect...
It's still there today, but now it's a playhouse for the new owner's kids.
I also remember 'duck + cover' drills at school.
But,,,the Brooklyn bridge..........? hmmmm...

Not surprising that the government caches something and then forgets about it. Another case of our tax dollars at work. Great story.
