Found this today in a field. Has silver hallmark, but i have no idea. Cigar tube top? Lipstick case top? 20160620_180915.webp20160620_180858.webp20160620_180513.webp20160620_180708.webp20160620_180603_001.webp20160620_180534.webp

I flipped the pic to see if the letter might be a W? What do you think?

I thought if it was flipped, is it the top of the small silver booze flask that gentlemen carried in their inner suit pocket?

How unusual.....time to get that research under way.

Not sure what it is but no matter what its still silver

Match holder half of one

Good call on the flask top. Couldnt figure out what kind of top would be made from silver, a flask would make sense. I believe that it is a "w" on it and the monogram would go along with a flask top. Good thinking.

It reminds me of a Victorian needle case top, which can sometimes also serve as a thimble. That might be a possibility.

Would a match holder be made from silver? Ill have to go look, to me a match holder is a small piece of cardboard with some matches stapled in. Lol

Yes, I am sure there were silver matcholders for the gents. And many other things that it could be. Now comes the task of looking at web pics to look up each guess.

"P" is the 16th letter of the alphabet. That looks like a "16" to me. 16 stand for P, which stands for Pepper.
That's a Pepper shaker??
How's that for an overactive imagination? ?

Could be a vintage snuff/pill box.

I'm guessing its from a cosmetic of some sort. I found a metal lipstick tube before. go back to that area if you can, the other part is probably still there nearby. I found both halves of mine about 10 feet apart, probably hit by a mower at some point.

Could have even been a pill bottle. I've seen a silver one a bit smaller than that, but I like flask top better.

I'm thinking it's the top of something like a talcum powder container or suchlike, the type you would find in an expensive toiletries kit for traveling. A personal monogram on those pieces would not be unusual.
