Found a few of these at a old mill site in the water. Just wondering if someone else knows what they were used for.

Neat but odd! A stopper of some kind?
I don't really have a clue but wonder if ropes could have been run over the grooves to keep this in place?

Clay stopper for a carboy, I have a couple myself., they’re put in soft to make a perfect fit and they harden over time.

This is interesting, because I've never heard of a 'Carboy' clay stopper either. :icon_scratch:
I found this ad pictured in an old Treasure Net 'What is it' post from 2013.
