My buddy and I went out to detect an old house from the 1800s. It has alot of property so we starting detecting in a field away from the house (we will eventually detect the house area) we both were getting a lot of iron hits and trash but then I moved under the clothesline (not sure if the clothesline has been there for a while or not) and got a decent tone which registered 6inches on the ace 250. I dug down and saw a glimpse of metal so I carefully pulled it out. I'm pretty positive it's a coin holder and possibly designed for a woman. There is no date on it. It has hinges so I'm thinking there was once a back to it, I searched all over that area but never found the backing to it. Anyone have any knowledge on this or ones similar? Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

Love it, your right about it having a back. It would of had spring loaded coin holders. I have found small individual nickel sized ones shaped like mini pocket watches, but nothing so intricate. I'm guessing early 1900s

Wish the back was still attached, could have possibly had a date/company or name. Not sure what kind of metal it is either?

Very cool coin holder, silver plated to boot!

Nice coin holder. One can only imagine what coins it held in its day!
