Finally got out to a place that used to be part of a military base. Started finding these little pieces and my first thought was holy crap grenade caps. Anyone one else thinking the same. Also found the U.S. Pin ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1467331078.388842.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1467331101.341564.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1467331137.967223.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1467331159.966507.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1467331176.003014.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1467331190.690024.webp

If you hunt that area again, you might want to be extra careful digging. There might actually be some unexploded ordinance around.

Yeah that's what I was thinking... Tip toe through the mine field... There's a few more just laying on the ground in this one area. Might be some good finds in those woods

A T-Net member actually did find a live grenade, I believe it was in San Francisco if I remember right. The cops(bomb squad) took care of it.

These are also used on smoke grenades, which have a steel cans which may have rusted away (same type has been used for long enough that it's just a possibility).

At training bases practice grenades are used and work the same. We used to find them a lot at Fort Dix NJ
where recruits bivouacked. Also a lot of bandoleers of blank ammo and magnesium flares.

I've got a real one that's decommissioned on a shelf in my house. It gets a lot of remarks. .

I know what you mean about finding belts of training ammo. Here's one I found about a year ago..........must have weighed 50lbs. I took a small section and reburied the rest as it was just too far to lug it back to the truck.

Ya I know, I offered a guy who knew firearms if he was interested as he did hi own reloading. He wasn't interested. Said military brass was intended to be used once. When you give thought it's obvious. I mean who is going to run around a fire fight collecting brass?
