I received some questions about this piece..It’s from the famous Tick island site over on the St. John’s River, Florida’s east coast...it’s a modified and incised raccoon jawbone..Several were found at the site( pic.1) are a few variations ....It should be noted that they were made as a set with left and right ones, most likely for a mask of some sort,
imagination goes here...

Yupp I wore a beard back then...you know I never noticed that pic I was so focused on the color photo,Lol...Would you look at the cut in that shell mound, Wow.
