Hello again, I found this old "F A 7 03" military rifle casing on the side of the road in Cochise County, AZ, a few years ago. What weapon(s) was this thing for?
Do you know if and how long the old Krag rifles were in service after the adoption of the Springfield 03? Would this be uncommon to find, considering its dated 1903, the year the old Krag-Jorgensen rifles were replaced?
The Krag was adopted by the U.S. Army in 1892 and was only in service until being replaced in 1903 by the rimless 30-03 cartridge predecessor to the 30-06. I wouldn't consider it an uncommon find as these surplus rifles and ammo were offered for sale to the public for many years. But common or not I always enjoy finding old cartridges.
