I'm inclined to think it's modern because of the flat side and material which appears to be some kind of obsidian. Haven't heard of that being used in my area. Thoughts? received_368758650427242.webpreceived_851298815238311.webpreceived_2308384512823324.webpreceived_1291381804356735.webp

That's a beauty, but what's your area?

Hmmm. I’m skeptical, looks modern. Is that material common where you are?

yeah id have to agree.

Northwest pa

I share your inclination. Obsidian occurs in far west U.S. That piece reminds me of reproductions from India.

Does your friend have friends or family who like to play pranks? If I found that in my garden, I'd have a list of possible suspects... starting with my wife, my two sons, and my father-in-law.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

Any chance it’s anthracite? Doesn’t really look it in the pics but would make sense where you are. I found some pieces of it that I thought might be obsidian here in eastern MA.

Nope not at all. I'm in nw pa...as far as I can tell it's a type of obsidian found more on the west coast.

I don't believe there's any anthracite in Western Pa. as that's more in the eastern part of the state. Bituminous in the western part.
