Hi - the item you found is a bale seal . They were often used to seal bags of feed or grain and sometimes were dated. I've found a few on some colonial period farms in Ct.

Thanks for the feedback! I figured this item was too thin to be a bale seal, though. The bale seals I've found are much thicker and have holes in them.

I agree with poker chips. We find them at CW camp sites. I once found three in one spot. They were in a hut site. Nice personal find. Congrats!

I agree its not a bale seal. theres nothing indicating it was stamped onto wire....
