Today I took my new White's VX3 out to Belmont Lake State Park and played around in the Coin and Jewelry program. I worked in one area for a couple of hours and was able to dig a good handful of clad coins. When I moved to the grassy area in the back of the park, I started hitting some frozen patches of ground. I had a couple of coin hits in the 4-5 inch range that I had to pass up on because the ground was to frozen to dig. Well, I finally came to a spot where the machine said it was a zinc penny at 1 1/2 inches but it was in frozen ground. So I gave it a shot and tried to dig the coin out. I was able to dig it out but barely. If it was deeper I would've had to let it go. It turned out to be a small silver ring instead of a coin and I'm glad I was able to dig it out. It's the first ring with my VX3. Because of the force I had to apply to the digger to cut through the frozen ground, I dinged it a little as you can see if you look at the posted picture. I still went away a happy man with the silver piece. I'm really liking the new VX3 after using a DFX for all these years.
Have a look. You can see it's size compared to a dime.
