.....FUN BEING A VOLUNTEER FOR THE LOST MY STUFF GROUP.....

....Sorry it is a bit tough typing in the dark.....NOW BACK TO THE STORY....it is always tough to meet a total stranger especially if one tries Cold Calling or Cold Knocking.......I mean it can be apprehensive to both sides......a lot of times one does not really know what to expect from the Homeowner.......THE LOST MY STUFF GROUP kinda equalizes this experience......first of all the Homeowner contacts the group which sends out email to all of the volunteers.....I only repond to those that are Not too far away.......This afternoon was a good example.....I contacted Shelly who lost her Mother's High School ring back in 1964........I think that she was 16 at the time.....so it has been lost for 46 years........being young at the time she only knew the area where she realized that the ring was missing............so I kinda made her back track thru the yard....and the yard is Big..........I Tried to do some tricks like make her close her eyes and said imagine that you are back in 1964........where in your gut instincts do you think that the ring is.......DID NOT WORK.....SHE JUST DID NOT KNOW..............I was afraid of getting Heat Stroke so I meet her late in the evening....lucky me got a good breeze.............hunted for at least 3 hours and must have dug at least 50 or 60 targets ....most was junk ....found a few copper pennies....a 1943 D Silver Nickel and a lot of brass and what nots.....the brass included a few bullet shells.......nozel pieces to the water hose....brass or copper part of the old ink fountain pens..........also found a lot of melted lead and babbitt...........I Also found a large brass Number like it went to a Mailbox............Sorry but since I was a Volunteer I gave all of the above to Shelly...so I have No Pictures.......she started to throw down each trash piece....but I insisted on keeping all of the trash....since I knew that IF I came back that I did Not want to be digging any trash......TWICE..............NO RING THIS TIME...........have not given up..........i YJOML I tj Think that I wq will be just wait for some col cooler weathere...................HH...jOE

Quite an effort in this horrible heat!! Hope you are able to find it for her. I keep waiting for someone to lose something close to me so that I can try to find it for them. Seems there are a bunch of requests from the Houston general area. Good luck!

There are over 20 members in the Houston area and there was a TV story on the Houston ABC station-- channel 13, about the group last week.

Joe(TX)-- :hello:Can't believe you got out in this terrible heat. But glad to see you are still hanging in there.....
