Hello Everyone,
A few forumites down in S. CA decided to get together on Monday morning for a group hunt, and also for the invitation to be filmed in Leo's (fooleo) metal detecting show called "Finders Keepers", televised on Time Warner Ch. 99 in Riverside. His camerman, Jeff, in addition to Leo, were doing the play-by-play, while Jon(goldenapples), Mike(ratman), Leo, and I were swinging our coils and trying to find something good for the filming. It was a fun-filled day. We all got some silver. I could not find a silver coin. It was one of those days. I dug 30 wheats, and got two nice silver rings and a lot of clad quarters (40). No sooner did Mike get there, he dug a hole with 2 mercs in it. That made for an exciting filming of Leo's show. Leo ended up with 2 silver rings also, a few wheats, and 1 lucky '64 rosie dug at 1.5". Jon, it was great meeting you and detecting with you. I saw on your post that your 10.5 hr hunt made you feel like you were runned over by a truck the next morning. I know the feeling, but you stuck it out with the rest of us all day. Great job!!! Your 925 ring is really cool!!! Leo, had a great time meeting you and hunting with you!!! Let's do it again soon!!! Your show-and-tell of all your finds are amazing. Great stories and finds!!! I wish you would have filmed my finds today! Much more exciting. Mike, as always, bud, it was a pleasure. See you next week in your neck of the woods.
Today, I just had to go back to that park and give it another try. I was determined to find a silver coin there. My determination paid off. My first silver was a 1900S Barber Dime. About 5 minutes later, I got a tone which sounded a little higher than a nickel. I was thinking war nickel, but when I dug down about 5" and put the probe in the hole, it was sounding like a zinc. I thought it's got to be an Indian Head, and it was. An 1899 in excellent condition!! I think this coin was dropped as a mint coin with little circulation. I posted a closeup of it. You can still see "liberty" and the feathers on the Indian. Another 5 minutes later, I got the same signal and dug an 1884 IH. After breaking for lunch with Mike(ratman), I went back to the same area and dug the '43 Washington. Also got a Furniture token, which says on the front "Los Angeles Furniture Co. 724 So Broadway", and the back says "Good for $1.oo at time of purchase of $25.00 or More". Cool find. I ended the day with a '53 Rosie and about 16 wheaties. So I got my silver fix and headed home.
The pics are from both day's hunts. I had a blast!!!
