Hit a park that is new to me and after two visits I accumulated about $8 in clad. Also found a dollar coin, a '71 Kennedy half, and three junk rings. Love the happy penny with the smiley face cut out. When I found the pink pennies and two green ones, I had to wonder if a hunt had been held there or if someone had used painted pennies to play checkers. :dontknow: Wish I had found something old, but hey---even the penny was happy! HH

UPDATE: I cleaned up the men's ring to find "Sterling" inside! Very large and heavy ring. Made the day even nicer.

Re: Funny pennies, etc

I'm kinda sure your pennies are that color from being in the ground the copper kinda dulls in the ground.... ??? :icon_scratch: :dontknow: You found a good assortment of clad not to common to find those kind of dollar coins.... :icon_thumleft: :headbang: :hello2:

Keep @ it and HH !! ;D :D

Re: Funny pennies, etc

I have found those that are discolored, but these are painted on one side only. The paint is peeling off.

That sounds like a good amount of clad for one park :headbang:
That ring looks like the one I dug out of the lake recently. What did you clean it with?
All together that was a very good day. :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

I tried just polishing it, but that didn't do anything. I boiled some water with a teaspoon or two of salt. Then I took it off the burner and put some foil in the water. I place the ring on it and poured some washing soda. The first guy told me baking soda, but that didn't do anything. I bought Arm and Hammer Washing Soda after someone corrected him. I then added a little more salt. There is a chemical reaction and it starts fizzing. I let it sit until it is cooled off and then started buffing it. May have to do it more than once. Finally, I used silver polish I was surprised it looks so good!

I just run my found silver rings on my buffer with a little bit of fine polishing compound....when done, clean them off with a paper towel or rag and they look like new in seconds. No real need for all the boiling water and soda stuff, at least, not for me. I'm sure everyone has a favorite method.

The ring turned out really nice. Silver & turquoise...love that combination. Congrats on your finds!

Congratulations on the silver, :icon_thumleft: awesome discovery to find the silver later !! :headbang:

This is what I was going to add to this thread.....about cleaning the silver and turquiose. This was literally only a few seconds on the buffer with a little bit of very fine compound. A few minutes would have had it looking like new....even the turquoise:
