While walking the dogs a few months ago. I saw an oak box at the curb on garbage day. It looked cool. I opened the lid and saw that it was an old Record player thing. It was getting dark and starting to rain. I knew it must have value to I picked it and struggled 2 blocks to carrying it home. I put it on my work bench in the garage when I got home. I took a few quick photos with my phone and went inside to research what it was. It turns out it was an Edison Amberola 30 made around 1916. Ebay showed them going for $500 in working condition.
This one was missing the crank and the front cover. It also had issues with the wood veneer.
Youtube was a big help in learning how the thing worked. I was able to turn the crank using a vise grip. It failed to work. Most likely a broken spring. I listed it on Ebay "As is" for parts or restoration. It sold in about 1 day for $179.49 plus $60 shipping. The guy who bought it loved it. I did pretty well on that walk with the dogs.
