The story goes, the wedding ring might be a months paid (or pretty valuable), so at times of War they would be left with the wife (and/or kids), incase of death, giving a short term income. Thats another reason.We (hunting partners and me) have found a number of them in sawmill ghost town's from the late 1800's and early 1900's. Sold as real by scammers and peddlers
The personal items are right up there with cut Spanish reales!
