Detected this day on a sandy soil field. The field is fairly featureless, and situated nearly a mile from a village. I've detected this area countless times over the years. It's one of those areas, that's not prolific, but usually turns up interesting bits. Today lived up to expectations. A copper half penny of George I, the reverse is totally shot, still nice, George I coins are not common to find. Next and very uncommon to find, a silver button, no hall mark, but complete with it's shank. The button is plain on the front, but still a welcome find. An old military button, completed a trio of interesting finds, sorry I don't have an id on the regiment. Robert.

Nice ones! Not too many half-penny coins turn up at all that I am aware of, and the silver button is very nice. Any Iidea what the letters stand for?

None whatsoever, buttons aren't my bag. Robert.

Congratualtions on old copper recovery! :occasion14:

Excellent finds,,
One of our Button Experts will identify the Crown button.
Congratulations on a couple of nice finds.

Nice finds. George I coins not easy to find over here either. Ive found 1 George I and close to 50 George II

Nice Wood's Hibernia! That was the first pre-1900 coin I ever found, only found one George I since! Yours is in awesome condition too! I love the button with the letters on it, curious to see what the experts on here say they mean.

Looks like an Irish Halfpenny.

The button is a Victorian (Maybe just before depending on the backmark) Royal Horse Guards (Regiment).

Nice hunt Rob for getting the two buttons (even though they don't scratch your itch) It's not everyday a silver one pops up on a hunt, and both would buy a pint or two on a sale. :occasion14:

Like the old copper coin

very nice and now you got a good ID from Cru, makes them even sweeter

Hello Cru, the back is plain, no mark at all. Robert.

Hello pepperj, true silver buttons don't appear very often. Think ebay me say's, not worth a lot, only be put in a box otherwise. Robert.

Nice finds and button!

OK, then it's the Crown thats the main clue. At first I thought Victorian, but it might be Will IV.

PS. The squared off shank of the 'button' means it was a linked-button or cufflink circa 1790-1820.
