Germany:Ring Found and Returned (Long Distance Germany to Maine)

A couple of months back I found a high school ring from a Maine high school, it was a football ring (2002).

Unfortunately the initials in the ring were only partially clear. After many days of calling the city hall, high school and researching Army database, I was pretty sure whose ring it was. I finally got a call from the soldier's family, whose ring I found. It turns out he lost it here on post in Germany a couple of years ago. Since then he has returned to Iraq and is getting ready to end his military tour.

I have to say, that's the furthest distance I've ever read of a dug item being returned.

Great job Iroc, what a great surprise for the troopie! I lost my class ring 3 days after I got it, have even looked for and know about where it is, no luck. The area is very over grown now. HH, Mike

Isn't it nice to be able to enjoy the find twice? Once when you see a gold ring come out of the ground and again when you reunite it with its owner. Now that is Metal Detecting at its finest.

Congrats on the find AND the return. Gotta make you feel proud.
