Gettin' The Lead Out

Yes, I still remember how to turn a detector on lol. Got out for about an hour after work tonight. Found a few old bits o' lead and a green old wheat that I thought for sure was an IHP. The dropped ball is my biggest one yet. If some of you guys are good at deciphering calibers please feel free to enlighten me. Thanks for looking at a boring post lol.

I'm going to say .44 cal for the size of the ball.

Gettin' The Lead Out

I may stand to be corrected, but a 17.95mm is about ~0.69" and a .69cal is a British "Brown Bess" ball. I'm not even close to being knowledgable but those round balls were used most of the 18th century by British forces. Awesome find!!!!!!

Thanks Scraps. I found this in a general area that has given me a couple KG's and there was a lot of trade among settlers and natives. That would be wonderful if it was British.

Well I'm pretty sure it's British since it's a British Caliber. I would chalk that one up to a big win if it were me. I found one of those about a month ago. The weight is always astonishing for me. You would probably get the relic nuts attention if you changed your find title.

Nice lead finds OD! And it could be British, congrats! Nice your out finding goodies!
It depends on which side of the lead your on as to wether it's boring or not!
Can you imagine how heavy a bag full of those would be?

Like anything else, if you don't use those skills, they tend to disappear. Looks like you still got it!

Good Finds OD!

Nice finds buddy.

Yep liking the lead. Nice finds.

Don't feel bad Scrappy ...I found out on a forum as well.
But
The Original "Brown Bess" rifle was chambered for a .75 Cal Ball ,Some were .71 but most were .75 kinda makes those .69's seem a bit small.

Yes, they were chambered .75. But the .69 undersized round balls were used.

It seems like shooting someone with a dirty old penny would probably cause infection.
