My son and I will be receiving our first metal detector in a few days and I am looking to see if anyone knows of good spots to hunt without getting into trouble the first time out. I am in the Montgomery/conroe area of Texas and have been researching for a while but would like to get more info from someone who is experienced in this area of Texas. Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.
Respectfully,
Mike

Mike, I'm in The Woodlands area close to you. There is a detecting club in Tomball, also one in Montgomery County. The Montgomery County club meets This Thursday 5/19 at 7:00 PM at Robinson Rd and Hanna Rd, it's the Oak Ridge North Community Center. Feel free to come as a guest, we can answer your detecting questions there. All guests get a free coin from a grab bag for attending.

Basically most local parks in Montgomery County are OK as long as you fill your holes. The State Parks and National Forest areas are off limits. Schools are generally OK if you hunt when school is out.

Hope to meet you soon.

Check out Fostoria, TX in Montgomery County. It is an old ghost town now, but it used to be a lumber mill. If you need more details about the place let me know...
Also you can check out my website for a Whole Bunch of information.
