Went to a ghost town today just to check it out found a lot of rusted cans with the triangle cut in the lid that would date them around pre 1965, some large pcs of iron and pull tabs.

Also found this I think its made of real thin brass it has a five pointed star...???

the town has only some foundations and is from 1850

Thanks for looking

Half of a buckle - its the tongue bit that slotted into a loop on the other end of the belt. I would guess Military, maybe CW?? But no expert in US history. I have seen Texas buttons with a 5 pointed star. So a Texas Military sword buckle??

Has it broken, as it should have a loop to attach it to the belt or fixing holes?

Hopefully my drawing is better than my English.

Found this:

Good call, Dugfinds!

Great find, Joe!

These plates with five-pointed stars are often attributed to Texas, Mississippi, or militia troops, and indeed saw such usage during the Civil War. However, it was also a stock (generic) pattern that remained available for many years.

Don't worry about that. In the Civil War relic market, it's considered a Texas/Mississipp star, and a complete plate is worth $3,000-4,000.
