Giant wood mask ???

Got this at a garage sale. Owner said it was his dads’ and that he got it down in New Orleans.
anybody out there have any idea what this is and age? It is 54” tall and roughly 12” deep. 12” wide. Thanks for any info.

What do you think it is? It doesn't appear to have eye holes. I'd think that would make it decorative rather than utilitarian.
