I was visiting Ben Thompson a number of years back at his house in Kirkwood.
During our discussion about different relics, he opened a drawer on his cabinet and took this relic out. He handed it to me and said to keep it as a gift. He told me the story of him finding this relic when he was a much younger man living in Gibson County Indiana.
The material is brown slate, 1 1/8 inch in diameter. I have no idea what it may have been if not a pendant.

It is 100% polished over the entire surface. A possible theory is the hole was drilled and over time the hole enlarged from wear into the teardrop shape of today. Some slate relics I have found has a worn area on the top of the hole where the suspension material used, such as leather, worn over the years to make a 'circular' hole more oval.
