This post reminds me of a story one of my contractors told me a few years ago when I worked Commercial Sales at Lowe's. He was tearing down a old house ( back when old house parts where a hot topic, There was a TV show about reclaiming old mantels and doors)Anyway, he was telling me he was removing a old built in medicine cabinet, The kind that had the slit in the back to drop your safety razors in when your replaced them. They would fall between the wall studs. We removed the cabinet and started tearing into the wall and it "Jingled" when he first hit it with a sledge. He found over a 200 silver dollars in the wall. Apparently that's where the original owner decided to keep his money instead of burying it in the yard. Since then when I hunt a old falling down house, I look through it very carefully, tapping the walls.
