Well me and the wife decided to check out a new spot we been putting off due to the large amount of Rattlers killed there so far this year. (Around 14 or so. Probably coming down the mountain from a den said to be farther on up.)

As soon as we got past the gate decided to stop by an old double husband and wife tombstone just off the dirt road I'd never really paid attention to when I was younger. Can't remember the guys name, but date was 1850's to 1910's and the womans being 1860's to blank block (Hehe, first thought was she must be pretty old by now), And I also noticed about 5 other rocks in a row marking graves I never even knew about. Looked at the wife and said, "Huh, we might actually find some good stuff up here." We then went the rest of the way to the first field where my relatives have a Meeting ground pavilion for family get together/ hunting camp getaway and parked the old station wagon. Was planning on MDing the first field, but the wife wanted to walk a ways about some of the old logging roads and look for some of the old bottles said to be scattered about the woods. Needless to say I agreed..... but really was much more interested in swinging about the fields.

After about an hour of hiking through the woods finding nothing too interesting other than a silver plated spoon we came out on the backside of the field I was wanting to check and followed the bottom back toward where we had parked. Decided to stop by some apple tree's for a snack when I noticed a lot of random older bottles spread haphazardly about the woods leading down to a lower field. Roamed about the hillside toward the bottom finding a few keepers when low and behold I seen what looked like two big stacked rock walls coming out the side of the hill partially filled with broken glass, dirt, and various other items. Figure could be an old cellar or building for livestock back in the day turned into a glass dump. Seem to find a lot of them back in the mountains of WV.

After seeing that pile of potential treasure, decided to root about a bit and pulled out a few old coke bottles, glass clorox, and random old cork topped bottles. Needless to say didn't get to MD that day. Figured bottles would be all we got till the wife held up to me this round thing and said, " Is this a coin?" I looked at the size and instantly thought to myself, "Whoop Silver dollar!" till I saw the coloration of it. Next thought was, "omg large cent!" I then placed it in my pocket and got ready for a smoke break when I seen something she'd overlooked in the same spot. A neat womens pin made from flowery engravings in the silver I think, with two glass balls as decorative pieces. Lol, decided I'd work that spot for a bit instead. All in all pulled lots of nice bottles but no more coins or jewelery.

Got the coin home and gently got some off the crud with soap, water, and a toothbrush and found I was completely wrong. Seems to be a large English one penny from 1903. hard to imagine how it got all the way back here in these woods. Hoping to try cleaning it up a bit more later on with something else, but not much time now. Any good ideas appreciated. It's our oldest and first foreign coin found. Lol, shame I didn't find it though.:BangHead:

Cool! You never know what you'll find.....even in the back woods.
