Okay, this is a hundred acre farm maybe 2 miles from me. I have full permission to hunt, artifact find fish ect. Last year i found 2 old arrowheads and a cannonball? anywho, Ive been checking the goggle earth for features but am so new at this map stuff. The farm sits right near the quittie and swatty and is uphill. So a perfect arrowhead spot. So question is can someone look at these maps and see if they see anything? Heres one ill get more. Thanks:)

Any flats within 300 feet of water should be looked at, Do you have any native american relic hunting experience? Theres quite a few diffrent materials that where used in our area, and not all artifacts look like arrowheads. If youve found 2 already there will be plenty more. Its hard to pin point right from a map, alot of the artifacts will date froom 8000 years to contact period, and if your reallllllly lucky maybe a 10000 year old clovis or other paleo tool will show up.

Good luck hunting it, have fun!!

Hi Jeff

Yes I do, about 18 years worth:) Mine in this area are usually archiac. I think I see a few round circles, but wanted to double check so im ready for spring:)

Not sure what your Looking at

But I always thought Laural Grove Road was Syner.

I'v searched the Church Grove there
& What yest to be Valley glen Park

the grove gave up an Indian Cent
the park a Large Cent.

Used to have some friends in Syner

Have you tried looking at older maps to see if there were any houses or buildings on this land?

You can go under the "Maps" section here in TNet and get alot of different map sites to use. Penn Pilot that was posted earlier is also a good map site to get the older maps.

Syner is laurel grove, the farm is still intact. The owner has been there forever and his moms up the road with another farm:)

Thats good you got some years lookin, my own rule of thumb is "if it looks like I would put a tent there...." Ya know what I mean. That whole area is probably pretty good. I used to hunt the berks/lehigh county area where they came together east of ktown and dug around carbon county alot. I hung up my rock hunting hat awhile ago.

OMG, pennpilot is awesome and I found features:D

That is great! Now if we get this snow and ice out of here you can get out there and detect this farm.

Sue

You dont rock hunt anymore?? That would be sudden death for me. Only thing I look forward to, and yes Sue, the snow, ack. This is an awesome forum, you guys are great:) I learned more here today already then weeks of researching, thanks!

Cricket,

Along with PennPilot, this is probably my 2nd most favorite map research tool. I think you will like this feature in google earth. 1st you have to download and open google earth. Click this link http://www.gelib.com/historic-topographic-maps. Download, save and open the top file. Now go back to google earth under the PLACES menu, keep scrolling down and open all of the folders. You will soon come across a list of states, i.e. PA. Click on pa and start zooming in on earth. It takes a few seconds but you should see a 1900's topo overlay. You can also use the slide bar to fade the map in and out to compare old and now times. Well, good luck and enjoy. If you have any problems let me know.

I not Cricket, but I have a problem.

I did what you said, but I get a white screen. When I move the slider down to the left, all I get is the current map. I get no overlay map.

Please help me.

Sue

Sue - Are you selecting PA under - northeast us / maps

Brian

Sue,

I went through google earth to see if i could get the white screen you are talking about. I think I was able to duplicate what you have on your screen by selecting north america under the Dave Rumsey collection. Did you happen to install some of his maps? I would go down thriugh all the folders under layers and uncheck any other box you may have checked. This should shut the white screen off. Now make sure you selected the box tops, northeast US, INDEX, maps and then PA. Let us know if this helps...............
