Halves - Clad and lots of it. Pennies will be about 20% copper if your lucky. Maybe a few wheats and if you get really lucky a Indian Head. Any idea what you are looking for? Metals? Dates? Errors?

Agcoinhunter i guess if i buy a couple of rolls of halves silver. If I buy the pennies I will look for like you said wheats and errors. I am just bored sitting around today watching my 2 year old. I saw a post where a fellow found alot of silver halves. I mean heck what is the worst that could happen I get skunked, take the couple of rolls to another bank and cash them in for my money back. With all the pennies I am bound to find something. I find error coins sometimes detecting so maybe I can run one down CRH.

UPDATE: It is a good thing I didnt go for the Halves. The young lady teller said "You must be a coin collector..I said somewhat. She then said "I got through all the change i get and get the silver coins out. I was like....Man..Ok...I know I won't find silver with her around...lets see what these pennies have in them. Most are wrapped by local people. We shall see..

Never going to believe this...First roll I unwrap and pour onto the countertop...There is a wheat penny looking right back at me. I will add all the pictures later...This is going to be fun. :headbang:

If you want to become a penny sorter and want a cool little machine to help you look into the Ryedale Ace. I just started using it and am keeping all copper cents I find. Good luck!

Can you shoot me a link to this sorter? I see the Apprentice not the ace. I was going to hand sort all the copper out. I actually got more copper than I expected. I also ended up with 9 wheats, 72 of the 2009 Lincoln pennys and 3 canadians. The earliest wheat was a 1919. The others were 1950s. I am going to check the 2009 pennys for double dies, die cracks etc. I have a microscope to help me there. Should be alot of fun. I might start doing this bi weekly at different banks and see what happens. It is fun. :headbang:

Hey Agcoinhunter. I just found a Log cabin Double Die... :hello2: :hello2:
http://www.dvnmagazine.com/eccddr025.html

That is the one I have. I wonder how much it is worth?? It has every die marker and is plain as day. I gotta do some more research and see how much it is worth. If you know let me know. I will take pictures of it and post it up.

I dont really search for errors. I only accumulate copper in anticipation of rising copper prices. The melt ban is another discussion, but I figure copper is going to be like silver one day. We are happy to pull a silver coin out of 10 rolls, copper will be like that eventually. Why I decided to start hording copper. Who know, call me crazy but its fun to operate that machine. I just throw my zincs in my halves back I run through the coin machine.

Cool. So you just hoard copper pennies. I see. You can't melt them? I had a good bit of copper coins in my pennies today. I will sort them out and roll the zincs. Good idea. Explain how you get money for the copper coins. If you can't melt them and all.

There are small markets out there right now for copper pennies. I am anticipating that eventually the melt ban will be lifted. Who knows when that might be. Next year or next decade. I am just sorting them out and storing the away. Figure it will be easier to get them now then try after a melt ban has been lifted. Right now melt on a penny is just over 2 cents. If you get a chance go over to the real cent forum and read up on copper there. Some of those guys are into serious hording, as are a few regulars here.

I've been looking for a site like that. Can you send me a link?

Welcome, you are the first of a new wave of CRHers that are about to say hello. Nice finds.
