Detector(s) used
Bounty Hunter
The one I bought at Harbor Freight
I also purchased one at Walmart

All Treasure Hunting
Found this yesterday in a 1860's California gold mining camp. Nothing there but sagebrush and a few scattered rocks now. I did polish it with non abrasive gold polish. The cabochon is quartz with gold in matrix. I'm wondering how it was worn and by who? Man or Woman ?

Wow, that is sharp. I could see it going either way, male or female it's a beauty

Nice find - did you happen to get a picture of that
before the polishing ? If so would like to see it .

Yep

Awesome find. Looks like the stone in the middle has gold in it.

I wonder if its a hat ornament. A broach would have a hinged pin id think

That darn Walmart detector has pulled many 1850's-1860's silvers. Now an ornate gold piece. What the heck!

Love that specimen gold in the middle! Sick find!

Cool and unique find. My wife has gold in quartz earrings and pendant we got in Alaska years ago. It makes really nice looking jewelry.

It looks like a loop on the back and not a pin. If so it might be for on a hat band as wilcam47 said.

I have to agree with villlagenut that I like the unpolished surface better.

It might be a cheap detector, but good finds means you are using it right and getting your coil in the right spots. The best detector in the world isn’t much good if you don’t use it right. Good work.

Congratulations and keep swingin.

Wow, very nice! Sweet find whatever it was used for.
