Gold find in SE Oklahoma

[The Legend]

I was walking the surface of my normal hunting grounds and spotted what looked like a copper object. After a quick rub I realize it is quite a bit more intriguing. It is an unknown alloy of what seams to be gold and copper. I am not sure what the artifact may be. I am in an area thought to be a fav camp of outlaws. In some hills next to blue river just a few miles from nails crossing.

My jeweler gave it a quick once over and said it tested 24k at one spot and wouldn't even clear 10k at spot where copper color is showing. It weighs 23.5 grams.

Wow I would leave skid marks back to that spot and start sifting looks like someone may have accidently burned thier poke Id do some more poking around

What a curious object, from the jewelers test it has high gold content that is not consistent throughout the piece. The appearance of both sides seems to indicate it had been melted, possibly someone was attempting to alloy a high content gold object for some reason.

If you had a metal detector I would check the area around where the object was found for other clues...……...nice ground spotting!...……………….63bkpkr

Also, you might try to melt the object and then stir it to make the mixture uniform then return to your jeweler and have him retest it to confirm the karat content now that you've mixed the metals together. Once melted it will be very hot so be careful to not burn yourself on the containers or by spilling the molten meal on yourself.

You might go on the internet to learn what materials you could add to the molten mass to remove impurities though this would not be really necessary to do.

We did an acid test on a spot that had been cut thru and thru the thickest section and it tested 24k gold. I know this area is highly suspected to be an outlaw hideout (lots of J.J. buzz) and have thought maybe it could be part of what was once loot divied up. I can faintly see on on side a cross in a shield beside what looks like a coat of arms. Can't make out the fine detail inside the coat of arms (if that's what it is). It looks to be a shield divided into 4 equal sections. Also on one side there is a claw of what looks like a dragons foot. Some say it looks like an eagle. But once viewed thru a j loop it seams to def be of a reptile

Can you get a close up shot of the other side? From your first pic it kinda looks like theres some writing on there. I may be mistaken though.
Coins were made from both copper and gold, maybe someone accidently tossed their loot bag into the fire.
