i am new to prospecting for gold. i have been up to grass valley and gold panned and found a few flakes but most of the areas there are state park and you cant spend the night there. i was wondering if anyone knew of any decent areas to go to that were in the national forest not too far from sacramento. If anyone knows any good rivers or creeks please let me know. I heard the Yuba river was a good river but for the most part its all state park land.

Try about 35 miles north of a town called Auburn. Go up to the Iowa hill campground it is on the north fork of the american river. There used to be a campground there and a good place to dredge or pan.

Auburn Recreation area is HUGE and you can camp at Drivers Flats and Chinese Bar.Thousands of acres, good gold, and used to be pretty cheap too.Day use used to be free.No claims to get in trouble on either.Tons a au 2 u 2-John
