Hi all - I found a 2007 gold plated half in my last box - can someone tell me if this is actually real gold plating, or just colored, and is this worth anything more than just face... it seems a waste to dump it as it is a high mirror finish and first ive ever found, but if its not worth more Ill just put it into my WTF box

thx for the help!

It usually is real gold but there is so little of it that it really isn't worth much. They are more of a novelty than anything else. Keep it if you like the bling look I guess. :D

I'm with Packerbacker. I usually keep them and then pass them on to the nice tellers at my dump banks. They seem to enjoy them as a novelty. I also keep all the counter-stamped halves for the same reason -- they are novelty's.
You also know that the 2007 are issued as NIFC and are low mintages. They probably will never be worth a lot, but I set aside a roll of every NIFC year too.
Good luck,
Steve

I have come across 7 gold looking coins and have kept them with all the foreign and silver plated.

Chainchomp,

Take a look at this post if you want to see a picture, not sure if plating is silver or chrome, but it sure is bright.
