So.... I get up yesterday morning and drag the wife out to a spot in a nearby rural area where there some buildings once stood.

On one of the old lots I began to hit slag made of tin and other base metal stuff... some of it was rather large. This lead me to believe there was a structure fire.

About 20 minutes into the hunt I get a nice signal... I dug it and once again it was slag....I had hit it with my digger and a bright yellow metal showed. I thought... no way... gotta be brass... and threw it in my pouch for later.

When I got home I began cleaning some crud off a war nickel I had found later that day and forgot about my little curious piece of slag for several hours. When I pulled it back out and ran it under water it started cleaning up easily with rubs from my fingers. As soon as I had a clean spot I acid tested it and it was positive for 10k...but 14k acid ate it slowly. 16.47 grams. I continued to clean it up some and this is where Im at right now in the pics.

Always check out your slag! This is the second piece of slag that turned out to be valuable this year.

Nice!
I never considered testing any slag I found.
You are definitely in an area where that would pertain.
I would take it to a jeweler/coin shop for reassurance though.

I need to be more careful about tossing my slag finds.
