My buddy Joe and I get out to a large farm site that has been around since the 1800's. The land owner gives us the layout and the first thing that happens is we lock ourselves out of the car with the detectors still inside.
Luckily my wife was available to get us a spare key fairly quickly.
We searched for a few hours without much success. After lunch I broke the slump with a 1936 merc. A little while later I get a nice dime signal, boy was I surprised to pull an 1847 large cent from the hole. Just before we were leaving I dug a padlock. I didn't think much of it until I got home and brushed it off. It has a patent date of May 1884 so it is considerably older than expected.
It turned out to be a very good day, the weather was beautiful and I found some neat stuff.
