Hunted a local park that has produced some real old coins in the past. Today found 2 more keepers. First was the 1950 Rosie. Last was the 1874 IH....I was very surprised it cleaned up so well. Still need to touch it up alittle. Any ideas on a grade for the IH???

Thanks for looking and HH Woody420

After a gentle cleaning...the spots are more dirt....didn't want to force it off, I am taking it slow.

Very nice finds woody can you tell me how you cleaned it? I have a I.H. that is really cruddy and I have soaked it in olive oil for 2 weeks and it helped a little. Thanks for the info!

Well I am not a expert at cleaning coins but what I did was simple.....I waited for the coin to dry after pulling from the ground, then I rubbed as much of the dirt away with my finger as possable. Then after that I let it dry again and used a soft bristle toothbrush and rubbed it gently. Then after repeating that a few times I used alittle water and the toothbrush till I got to this point. It happens to be the easiest cleaning I have had to do to any copper coin.....I think I just got lucky on the soil type it was in because most of my indians/wheats come out beat up. Hope that helps lol

grade would be lower due to the fact it was dug an there is corrosion/pitting on the coin...

The spots on the face of the coin is dirt I am still carefully removing...however there is some "pitting" on the edge of the coin. I was leaning towards VF but correct me if I am wrong. I would imagine if there wasn't any "pitting" that it would grade closer to XF. I am sure if I bring it to my coin dealer that he'll grade it G4 just cause thats my luck lol I am happy either way digging a coin like this one just brings a smile to my face ;D

There is corrosion bubbles in the blank space between the States an the nose of the Indian...

Then what would you grade the coin? (the other side is in the same shape)

grading would probly be dropped a grade or 2 since it was dug an has those bubbles.. so it would probly be a grading something like Fine with vf or xf details /w corrsion cleaned... Would be my guess of what the tag would say if sent in for cert.
